The first of these lighting case studies features a High Intensity Discharge (HID), Metal Halide (MH) upgrade in a parking lot application. This case study upgrades a pole mount MH lighting system from a magnetic ballast to an electronic ballast, and utilizes an improved lamp with an increased efficacy and improved color rendering index. The upgrades to this lighting system provided a 65% average energy savings and which corresponds to a reduction of 185,090 annual kWh.

Sponsored by the Idaho Power Company, the University of Idaho Integrated Design Lab (UI-IDL) developed this series of infographics to communicate how four different building types consume energy on both a regional and national level.

Welcome

The University of Idaho Integrated Design Lab in Boise [IDL] is dedicated to the development of high performance energy efficient buildings in the Intermountain West. This is approached through research, education and outreach efforts with students, owners, and professional design and construction teams to transform practice and keep pace with the milestones of the 2030 Challenge. Those who utilize the resources available through the IDL will design and construct buildings that are more comfortable for people, require less energy to maintain and operate, and enhance the health and productivity of inhabitants.
