| Description: |
The Zero Energy Idea House was conceived by Shirey Contracting to show that a house can be designed to minimize energy use while maximizing comfort and style. The 1,630 square foot project is located in Bellevue, Washington on a steeply sloped site, perched over the shores of Lake Sammamish. The project was completed in August of 2009, but the home wasn’t occupied until December of 2009. This is the only project featured in our case study reports that uses structurally insulated panels (SIPs) for the envelope and a radiant distribution system for the heat pump system. The project also features other custom features such as a vertical axis wind turbine, a heavy-gauge steel frame structure, a green roof, and rain water collection system. |
