Envelope Commissioning Often Overlooked Based On Assumptions

After dozens of trades and sub-contractors have contributed to a building, there is no guarantee that the building envelope functions according to its original design; building envelope commissioning can help to co-ordinate this multitude of design influences. Commissioning is especially beneficial in green building projects because "they often incorporate novel or complex features such as innovative cladding technologies and because of the heightened interaction between the envelope and HVAC systems" (Kenter, 2009). To move a complex project to a better whole, design team involvement in the commissioning process should start as early as possible.
