| Abstract: |
A new housing performance standard is slowly emerging in contemporary residential construction. Houses that produce as much energy as they consume on an annual basis are being attempted by innovative project teams across the country. These homes combine traditional construction methods with new building strategies and modern day technological advancements. Even within the same region, multiple pathways to these extreme high performance homes exist and require careful study, simulation, and analysis. This report documents net zero home projects in the Northwest and provides a regional understanding of the construction techniques and strategies utilized to achieve this energy standard. |
