Commercial Lighting Compliance Workflow

HELIOS — High-Efficiency Lighting & IECC Optimization System. A guided sequence of design-phase tools — from establishing the lighting power allowance through daylight zones, the fenestration envelope, and the final interior and exterior compliance checks. Work through them in order.

Phase 01 — Early Design
1

IECC 2018 · Section C405 · New construction

Design-Phase Lighting Advisor

Establish the interior lighting power allowance from code at the earliest stage — before contracting with manufacturers. Sets the budget envelope to design against.

C405.2.3 · Sidelit + Toplit Zones

Daylight Area Calculator

Compute the sidelit (C405.2.3.2) and toplit (C405.2.3.3) daylight zone areas — adjacent to vertical fenestration and beneath skylights and roof monitors — to identify the spaces requiring daylight-responsive controls.

C402.4 · Fenestration (Prescriptive)

C402.4 Fenestration Compliance

Verify fenestration area and SHGC against the prescriptive envelope requirements before finalizing the lighting compliance path.

IECC 2018 · Section C405.3 + C405.2

Interior Lighting Compliance

The final check — interior lighting power allowance and required lighting controls under C405.3 and C405.2, confirming the design lands within code.

Exterior Lighting Compliance

Check exterior lighting power allowances and required controls under C405.4 — façades, entrances, parking, and grounds — against the code limits to close out the design.
